Sometimes they are simply too busy or do not have the opportunity to tell you on the big day. Here are some things you should know before you strike a pose.

Similar to other wedding vendors you’ll be working with during the wedding planning process, there are some things your wedding photographer won’t tell you—not even on the big day. Before you get all bent out of shape, keep in mind that your wedding photographer usually won’t tell you these things because they’re very busy, not because they intend to hold out on important secrets or sabotage your event!

Photographers are not style consultants or wedding coordinators. They have one job, and one job only, and that is to capture the most precious memories on your big day. This is why asking questions during your initial consultation appointment is so important. Clarify anything you might be unsure of before the wedding by asking your photographer beforehand.

Here are some things your wedding photographer probably won’t have the time to tell you:

Practice makes perfect. It might feel funny, but practicing certain poses in the mirror will help give you an idea of how to stand and which angle is most flattering for you. It will also help you with your posture.

Spit out the gum. Chewing gum on your wedding day while you’re taking your photos is a big wedding photo no-no. It can cause plenty of funny faces and make your face and jaw look strange in general, so do yourself a favor and spit out the gum!

Easy on the makeup. While a high-quality makeup job can really improve your look in your wedding photos, too much makeup, the wrong colors, or tones that don’t complement your skin tone can worsen your photos. Remember that lighting can affect the way your makeup looks, so don’t cake it on and try to hire a professional makeup artist if at all possible.
